“Hear the Scriptures in a Different Timbre”

For Advent we will be using a new lectionary by The Rev. Dr. Wilda C. Gafney, A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church, Year W that, by making women more visible in the lectionary texts, engages us all to hear the scriptures more deeply., by making women more visible in the lectionary texts.

This week we will go over the basics of lectionaries and the history of Biblical translation, along with a general consideration of what Gafney has done. Then starting in Advent, we will review the lessons we heard from the previous Sunday and consider what understandings have been reinforced from the past by Gafney’s selections and translations.
