It is hard for us to imagine the devastation and grief of the people of Haiti, the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nation, in the wake of the natural disaster now wreaking havoc on an increasingly desperate population. With relief efforts now under way, the crisis in Haiti continues and will continue for some time. If you would like to donate to the relief effort directly, two charities are of particular note for their efficiency at getting help where it is needed and keeping administrative costs at a minimum.Episcopal Relief & Development and the International Rescue Committee are both rated at four stars (highest rating) by Charity Navigator, a watchdog group that monitors the administrative and advertising costs of various charities.
